I am an autodidact living in the cultural mecca of Las Vegas, Nevada. I have a one man wood shop and ceramic studio where I complete all of my work. For my ceramics I hand make all of my own models usually turned or carved from wood and cast my own molds. I mix my own clay and glaze recipes I have developed and fire all of my own items. For my woodwork I grow and harvest my own lumber here in my backyard and have a band of migrant brownies prepare the rough lumber for me. I am influenced by many things. In my ceramics I am particularly partial to Scandinavian and Japanese work. In my furniture and other woodwork I admire Shaker and Arts and Crafts design. The common thread for me in all of these influences is simplicity. Simplicity in design, function and construction. My goal in all of my work is to make something that people will enjoy. To me this means the item should be attractive, functional and affordable. My work is intended to be used. I want people to pick them up and investigate and appreciate the object. Since I have the attention span of a fruit fly I tend to have many interests. I am currently interested in ceramics, woodwork and most recently printmaking. I encourage you to check back regularly to what new items I have added.
Thanks, Robert
